Try this approach to set your Windows software program to get the additional Estonian vowels directly off the keyboard, lower and upper case.Go to the START button (bottom left of screen)Select SETTINGS then CONTROL PANEL Select KEYBOARD (double click) then select LANGUAGE Select ADD, go down list under Add Language to ESTONIAN, select and click OK Select PROPERTIES, go down the list under Keyboard Layout to ESTONIAN, select and click OK Suggest you leave SWITCH LANGUAGES as it is, i.e., Left ALT + SHIFT and click OK You should now be back to CONTROL PANEL, close it (click on x top right) Whatever your word processing program you should now be able to get the Estonian vowels directly off the keyboard as follows: Press the Left ALT + SHIFT keys (together) to go to the Estonian keyboard layout Note: Use the following keys (you only need four) to get the Estonian vowels: For lower case: Left square bracket key ([) = ü Right square bracket key (] ) = õ Semi-colon key ( ; ) = ö Inverted commas key ( " ) = ä For upper case: SHIFT + left square bracket key = Ü SHIFT + right square bracket key = Õ SHIFT + semi-colon key = Ö SHIFT + inverted commas key = Ä Notes: The other letter and number keys will continue to operate normally while the Estonian layout is used, but using SHIFT to get the other half of the numbers and both halves of the characters keys will get you different results ... you may have to use ALT + SHIFT to alternate between the English and Estonian keyboard layouts. You should be able to type a normal letter in Estonian without having to switch the keyboard layout back to English. To send an e-mail with Estonian characters, suggest you write it in your word processing package and then COPY and PASTE it into your e-mail message box. Thanks to V. T. for providing this. |
